Case Study
Xinetics, one of MassDevelopment's first commercial tenants at Devens, is a high tech manufacturer of optical and motion control devices. Founded in 1993, Xinetics has grown from two leased buildings and a dozen employees to occupying five buildings in Devens totaling 90,000 square feet and employing 70 people. In May of 2005 Xinetics purchased the former Walden Sports facility located at 53 Jackson Road with immediate plans to co-locate and expand its silicon carbide operations in a portion of the 58,000 square foot facility. Xinetics is currently installing equipment and infrastructure into the new building with a completion date of late 2005 or early 2006. The purchase will allow Xinetics to increase its current capacity as well as facilitize for larger components than the present facility can accommodate. Xinetics' long range plan for the rest of the space is the creation of a national replicated optics operation, a mating technology to the silicon carbide operation which will be the first of its kind in the U.S.
